About AMÉ
When Japanese migrants settled in Peru a hundred and thirty years ago, they
brought their knives and found new fire. What grew is Nikkei, two kitchens becoming one over generations. Now it has a new home on Oxford Street.
The menu is built on Japanese technique and Peruvian flavour, made with Australian seafood and produce. Raw to start, sushi and sashimi, ceviche, sharp with lime and heat, then skewers, anticuchos off the coals. Every plate opens both cuisines a little further. The bar keeps the same spirit, Pisco and Sake on one list, the drinks invented from the coastlines, mountains and forest Japan and Peru share.
The room is a heritage one, worked in warm timber under ornate ceilings, sheer curtains in chilli red, turquoise and mustard pulling a big space into something closer. Oxford Street carries on outside; in here it goes quiet. Come early for ceviche. Bring the whole table and take your time over a banquet. Slide into a booth as the light shifts and the evening settles. Come for a birthday, or for no reason beyond a night worth improving.
You'll leave brighter than you came. This is Amé.
